Deep Cleaning Your Smith Mountain Lake Rental Home’s Bathroom

One of the nice things about first moving into a rental home is how clean everything is. A quality landlord will have thoroughly cleaned each room of the home— from bathrooms to the kitchen— all before move-in day. However, after some time, the wear and tear of daily use will affect the rooms, so that even bathrooms— which gets cleaned regularly— would still need a good deep cleaning. To keep your Smith Mountain Lake rental home’s bathroom sanitary and in good order, you should complete some deep cleaning tasks. Do this every few months to ensure that your bathrooms are kept sparkling clean.

The likely areas that will need deep cleaning the most are your tub, shower, and showerhead. Each one should be deep cleaned regularly to remove residue buildup and water spots. An effective and easy way to clean any bathroom surface is by mixing a few drops of white vinegar with a cup of baking soda to make a paste. Spread the mixture over the tub or shower door and let it sit for an hour. This allows the mixture some time to work. Then wipe and rinse it clean. For shower walls, try spraying them with an all-purpose cleaner then let the shower fill with steam by turning the hot water on. Close the shower door and let the cleaner sit for about twenty minutes, then wipe down with a wet sponge or cloth.

Vinegar works great on sinks and showerheads, too. To clean a sink with vinegar, all you have to do is pour out a small amount, scrub, and flush with hot water. To clean a showerhead with white vinegar, fill a bag with it and then place the bag over the showerhead. Make sure the entire fixture is immersed in the vinegar. It should be soaking in it. Secure it down with a rubber band or twist-tie and let sit overnight. The next morning, remove the bag and wipe the showerhead clean.

Another part of the bathroom you should consider giving a deep clean regularly is the toilet. Even though there are many different toilet cleaners on the market, the best way is to deep clean a toilet is still using baking soda. Simply pour a cup of baking soda into the toilet bowl and let sit for about five minutes. Brush thoroughly with a toilet brush. After doing that, flush the toilet to rinse it.

If your rental home’s bathroom has tile, you should have the grout deep cleaned to avoid bacterial growth. Bleach and a grout brush are the best ways to lighten discolored grout lines and kill anything trying to grow between your tile. To really keep grout watertight, don’t forget to reseal it every six months or so to keep moisture and bacteria out. Bleach can also be used to address any mold growing in windowsills or other areas. Prepare the solution by mixing one part bleach to two parts water and scrub any mold spots with a sponge.

Deep cleaning a bathroom doesn’t need to take up a lot of time and effort, but you have to remember to do it on a regular basis. Now that you know how to deep clean a bathroom the way the pros do it, it would be a whole lot easier to stay on top of this important maintenance task.
