Below are my top three podcasts involving music (something that I know and love). These are in no particular order:
- Song Exploder: This is a masterful journey of how songwriters create and perfect their songs. It is really fun to listen to the writer’s mindset, and see how songs were put together in the studio. My favorite episode is Episode 61: Courtney Barnett. Honorable mentions are: Weezer, and Phoebe Bridgers.
- Strong Songs: I truly enjoy the way kirk breaks down the specific elements of songs we all know and love! My favorite is his most recent Q/A episode, where he explains what “remastering” means and the effects Kurt Cobain used on his guitar on “Come As You Are”. GREAT episode.
- NPR’s Tiny Desk: I admit it is a bit of a stretch to refer to this as simply a podcast (meaning, you should watch the youtube videos as well). I LOVE stripped, simple music and this project is the perfect example of taking incredibly talented musicians and blatantly displaying their talent. My favorite episodes (and they are VERY different) are Chris Stapleton, and Anderson.Paak. Honestly, the archive of this show are incredible, find some artists you know, and some you don’t know and give them a listen.
